A professional criminal only known as The Joker who uses his twisted sense of humor to cause chaos. The Clown Prince of Crime is Batman's deadliest and most unpredictable foe. His real past is unclear.

The person that would become the infamous Joker was once a poor, lonely man trying to support his pregnant wife. He tried stand up comedy and failed horribly. He turned to a criminal gang as the Red Hood, and got the job of raiding a factory he formerly worked at. Before the heist he got a call saying his wife died in an accident. He decided to quit the crime but he was forced into it. During the crime Batman showed up. Desperate to escape, he fell into a vat of toxic waste. It turned his skin chalk white, his hair green, and his lips ruby red. This event drove the Red Hood insane to the point of being a mass murderer, as The Joker.

The Joker often bases his crimes around his bizarre sense of humor. His favorite weapon is Joker Venom, which leaves his victims literally laughing to death as he makes his getaway. It can be concealed in a gas bomb, or sprayed out his squirting flower. He is usually accompanied by his partner, Harley Quinn.

In LEGO Batman: The Videogame, The Joker has a variety of tricks up his sleeve to help him elude the Dynamic Duo. The Joker can employ laughing gas – temporarily causing his enemies to burst into fits of laughter, rendering them open to attack. The Joker also uses an electric shock buzzer to electrocute enemies or objects.

The Joker is an expert at building joke-themed gadgets, each crazier and more dangerous than the last; including guns that pop out a "BANG" flag (which then spray a dose of Joker Venom), razer sharp throwing cards, a concussion yo-yo, and electro-shock joy-buzzers. The latest addition to his arsenal is the Joker-Copter, armed with twin retractable cannons and loaded with grinning, glowing Joker Venom bombs. Details of what other surprises it may hide are unclear, as the entire design crew mysteriously disappeared after its completion. Witnesses report seeing the Joker-Copter in the sky above Gotham, accompanied by the sound of crazy laughter. The Joker also uses an ice-cream truck to sell his Joker-Gas ice-cream to citizens of Gotham, but was no match for The Tumbler.

Although his name was not revealed in the comic series, in the 1989 film "Batman", The Joker was referred to as Jack Napier. His origin was also revealed in the comic "The Killing Joke". In in the 2008 film "The Dark Knight" the Joker's make-up isn't pernement and is portrayed more as a terrorist.
